Mitchell College

An inclusive, independent institution with a waterfront campus in historic New London,
Connecticut, Mitchell College believes in harnessing the power of transformation and
uncovering what’s radically possible for every student, supporting a wide spectrum of diversity
with a focus on neuroequity. Over more than 85 years, Mitchell has developed the Mitchell
Ability Model, a distinct approach to education blending a tradition of mentoring with expertise in
teaching those with different learning and processing styles. Through a journey of self-discovery,
learning adaptability, career development, and mastery of essential abilities, students are
challenged, supported, and equipped for self-defined success. The college provides a learning
continuum that includes the following specialized programs:

  • Thames at Mitchell College: A post high-school program for those who are neurodivergent, have diagnosed learning challenges, or want to build independence and self confidence
  • SAILS Program: A program teaching self-advocacy and interpersonal life skills
  • Bentsen Learning Center: A resource providing academic support for Mitchell students with learning challenges
  • STAIRs Program: A living-learning post-college transition program
  • Mitchell Hub: An online platform for professional skills training and credentialing

The college also is home to championship NCAA Division III athletics as part of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).

Radically Possible, Powerfully Mitchell.
