Sped*Net Wilton

SPED*NET Wilton, Special Education Network of Wilton, Ltd., is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation organized exclusively for educational purposes, more specifically, to educate the public about special needs, special education and disability-related issues. SPED*NET Wilton serves as an advocacy and supportive network for CT families of children with special needs, especially families of children with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Conceived not only as a network for information, but as a life-net for parents thrust unexpectedly into the special needs world, we strive to empower parents, professionals and students to become more effective advocates in their schools and communities.

Our yearly speaker series, free and open to the public, provides information on the latest therapies, strategies and research in the educational, medical and social realms. We are a member of Vision 20/20 and collaborate with community organizations (such as Norwalk Public Schools, Norwalk SPED Partners, the Wilton Library, the Wilton Family Y, Wilton Youth Council, Wilton Youth Services, the Wilton Education Foundation and Parent Connection) to bring the highest quality speakers and programs to the Wilton-Norwalk region. Our geographical reach extends to over 20 area towns.

Our Guide to Special Services in Connecticut, Bringing Knowledge to the Table: How to Be an Effective Advocate for Your Child, presents information in a user-friendly format and in easy-to-understand language, detailing the special education process and linking readers to current websites, forms and resources. An essential research tool, the Guide stresses the importance of advocacy, collaboration and knowledge of parental and student rights. The Guide is available for free use and download (in PDF format) on our website; printed copies are also available for purchase.
