State of CT – Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS)

The Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS), a division of the Department of Aging and Disability Services (ADS), helps persons with significant physical and/or mental disabilities to prepare for, find, keep, or advance in a job. BRS strives to create opportunities to help individuals with disabilities work competitively. Our Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Counselors have the knowledge and experience to help people with disabilities explore work opportunities and make choices related to employment.

We offer individualized services for persons with disabilities who are eligible and provide supports in planning for and achieving their job goals.  To be eligible for the VR program, “an individual must have a significant physical or mental condition which poses a substantial barrier to employment and must require VR services in order to prepare for, find and succeed in employment.”

BRS may provide a full range of individualized services, including:

  • Career Counseling
  • Benefits counseling
  • Job search assistance
  • School-to-work transition services
  • Career Advancement Supports
  • Skills training and career education in college and/or vocational schools
  • On-the-job training in business and industry
  • Assistive technology services such as adaptive equipment for mobility, communication and work activities
  • Vehicle and home modification
  • Services to assist in restoring or improving a physical and/or mental impairment, such as hearing aids
  • Supported employment services
  • Help to access other programs and services

The VR Program also serves eligible, or potentially eligible, students with disabilities ages 16-22 through the Level Up Program
